Last time, I posted on how to start a blog, use the right platforms, problems encountered on blogging, and helpful mobile apps for blogging.
In this post, I will share my thoughts regarding why you should choose a free platform over a paid one. My thoughts are my experiences in this field. I have ten reasons to share with you that a free platform is enough for you and your blog, these are:
- Budget
- Trying Things Out
- Sharing Ideas with the Community
- Online Diary
- Consistent
- Niche
- School Projects or Portfolio
- A subdomain isn’t an issue
- Time Management
- Blogging Needs
1. Budget
Well, budget is the first thing to consider when it comes to blogging. If you’re a beginner and you only want to try how blogging works, then a free platform is very much recommended for you.
2. Trying things out
If you only want to try specific codes or how the themes work, or you just saw a blog, and you want to try it out, then a free platform is very much recommended.
3. Sharing Ideas with the Community
Sharing ideas is a fun way to communicate with our friends and family. Using a free platform is a great way to start sharing, especially if your community is on that platform. Like Instagram, if you have outstanding photos that you want to share and get exposure. It is one of the most popular platforms for pictures/images; Medium, if you love sharing stories with other people. It is also an incredible free platform that I will recommend to you. These are some of the free platforms you can consider, and there are still more helpful and user-friendly free platforms that you can choose.
4. Online Diary
Most bloggers use their blogs as online diaries or online journals. So probably, you want to document certain happenings in your life and your journey. So with this, a free platform is very much recommended, especially if you have no plans to grow your blog in the future.
5. Consistent
Consistently is one of the critical things you must consider before starting a blog. How sure are you that you can be consistent from day one until the future of your blog? If you know that you are not yet ready to commit to your blog and you’re just experimenting, then a free platform is what you need.
6. Niche
Niche is significant to blogging because it is a way to know your branding and what your blog/site can offer. If you still don’t know what kind of niche you will pursue, but; You want to start blogging to enhance your skills, then a free blogging platform is a suitable choice. Here you can create a blog while still improving and sorting out your ideas on what niche you should focus on without spending.
7. School Projects or Portfolio
When your teacher or professor asks you to make a website or host a site from scratch, then a free blogging platform is an excellent idea to do your projects. When I was in my high school years, my teacher asked me to build a website for the portfolios of our upcoming projects using HTML. I made mine using Blogger.com, and that was the start of my blogging journey because I enjoyed doing it. I spend my break time in our computer lab playing around with Blogger.com. Blogger is one of the best free blogging platforms that I will recommend.
8. A Subdomain isn’t an issue
Before, when I was using the free blogging platform, my site name was (yoursite.blogspot.com and yoursite.wordpress.com). I have tried both free platforms, and they are both excellent and user-friendly. I will make a separate blog post about the difference between the two free platforms. So if using a subdomain isn’t an issue for you, then I highly suggest that you choose a free blogging platform. But there are still free blogging platforms that allow you to use your Domain name if you already have one.
9. Time management
Time management is essential for blogging, especially if you’re planning to grow and earn from it. Some small businesses invest their time in blogging for growth, exposure, and page views. So if you have no plan to make money from your blog or invest a lot of time and effort into it, then a free blogging platform is enough for your needs.
10. Blogging Needs
Suppose you don’t need so much power and control for your blogs, such as different plugins, and you have no plans to install security and flexibility. And you don’t want to use premium themes that are very responsive on desktop or mobile views. If you have no plan to own it with your unique branding; then, a free blogging platform is definitely for you.
These are my ten reasons to choose free blogging platforms. But again, these are only my advice and suggestions; always remember at the end of the day, you are still in charge of what kind of platform you’re going to use.
